iPhone 16 Photos app crashes when accessed from camera shortcut

Hi everyone,

I want to share a persistent issue I’ve been facing on my iPhone 16, and I’m hoping to see if others have experienced the same thing — or if Apple can finally take notice.

I bought my iPhone 16 on September 15, 2024, and since day one I’ve noticed this problem:

When I open the Camera using the side button and tap the thumbnail to view recently taken photos, the Photos app crashes frequently.

Oddly enough, this crash never happens if I open the Photos app directly from the home screen.

Now, while I can technically work around the issue by manually launching the Photos app, that defeats the whole point of having a dedicated Camera shortcut. It’s a completely unnecessary workaround for something that should be smooth and intuitive.

Since May 1st, I’ve contacted Apple Support almost every other day. I’ve spent over 6 hours on calls with them.

Here’s what I’ve been through:

Case IDs: 102588204410, 102588198809

Reset my settings multiple times

Erased and reinstalled the phone twice

Described and reproduced the issue step-by-step

Was escalated to a senior technician after the steps above.

Repeatedly asked to record screen videos, recreate the crash, install diagnostic profiles, upload logs

One iOS update was pushed during the process — issue still persists, and they said it should fix it?

As of May 24, I was asked again to repeat the same process: screen recording and log uploads

Frankly, I’m a paying customer — not a QA engineer or a lab guinea pig.

This has become frustrating and exhausting, and after all this time, there’s still no acknowledgment of this being a known issue, let alone a fix.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

Is this a known bug?

Is there a proper fix or even a reliable workaround?

I know Apple engineers may not reply here directly, but I hope this post helps draw some attention to the issue, and maybe others can chime in so this finally gets the attention it deserves.
