New iPad has set up as my iPhone and the find my iPad will not work

I brought a new iPad urgently prior to a deployment and I did a quick set up however it’s taken my iPhone back up but won’t let me change the iPad name or use the find my iPad as it thinks it is a iPhone. Is it a case of factory reset and set up again as a new device or can I change the set up? Would rather not do a complete reset till I have a more stable internet connection if this is the only option.

It doesn’t even show as a iPad.

If the iPad was set-up by restoring your iPhone backup, the iPad will inherit your iPhone's name (usually including a suffix - e.g. the name may be "iPhone (2)". This is merely a name that can be changed/edited from iPad settings:

Settings > General > About > Name - edit as required

Having changed the device name, simply ****-down and restart the iPad for the revised device name to take effect.

As you restored the iPhone's backup to the iPad during initial setup, the majority of your iPhone's settings will have been copied to the iPad; any iPad settings can be changed, as needed, without having any impact upon your iPhone. Unless you wish to start again, or restore a different device backup to your iPad, there is no reason to reset the iPad.
