does my iphone 15 bought in panama support satellite emergency sos calls

My iPhone 15 is supposed to support emergency satellite sos calling. When there is wifi or mobile coverage there is still supposed to be a demo. But I see neither. The phone was bought in Panama City, Panama and has a physical SIM tray.

So why do I see neither of these options?

iPhone 15, iOS 18

On the product page where Apple mentions "Emergency SOS via satellite", there's a little "4" referring to a footnote.

That footnote reads:

"Service is included for free for two years with the activation of any iPhone 14 or later model. Connection and response times vary based on location, site conditions, and other factors. Messages via satellite requires a carrier plan. SMS messaging via satellite is available on supported carriers. SMS message rates may apply. See support.apple.com/kb/HT213885 for more information."

If you follow that link, it redirects to Connect to a satellite with your iPhone - Apple Support, where the "Satellite features on iPhone" section says "Availability of Apple satellite features depends on your country or region."

Apparently the features are not available in your country or region.

Per Apple:

  • Emergency SOS via satellite is available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the U.K., and the U.S.4
  • Availability in other regions is subject to regulation by government agencies, necessary approvals, and other market specific requirements. Apple is working to bring these capabilities to more regions as soon as possible.
  • International travelers who visit a country or region where Emergency SOS via satellite is available can use the feature while visiting, except if they bought their iPhone in certain countries or regions5.

I disagree. It would be very useful to run through a demo to help decide whether to seek out a provider that allows/offers emergency sos calls.

so really you don’t know why the demo option is not available.

The demo option is not available, because the service is not an option apple provides where you live. If you want Satellite Service, you'll need to find one which is supported where you live.

With no satellite service available, you can demo… nothing that you can use.

That seems somewhere between frustrating for users, and added support overhead for Apple explaining to frustrated users that there is no satellite service available.
