Calendar icon missing from home page

The calendar is no longer an icon on my home page, instead I now have an open calendar taking up half of the page

I believe you have a widget that may be taking up your Home Screen. Hold on it until you see the Remove Widget popup.

Then on your Home Screen, swipe down to open the Spotlight Search, search for the Calendar app, and drag it back to your app pages.
