Ipad magic keyboard keys not working

Ive got an 3rd gen ipad pro 11in and the compatible magic keyboard. This one connects via the back pins and i am able to charge the device thru the magic keyboard and use the trackpad but the keys dont work (the actual keyboard). I’ve tried the simple fixes already, turn off mouse keys, reset my ipad, get new iOS but nothing seems to work, Thanks for any help

Remove the iPad from the Keyboard - and carefully/gently clean the smart connector contacts on both the iPad and keyboard with a soft pencil eraser (a drafting-film eraser is ideal). Ensure that the contacts on both iPad and keyboard are dirt and dust free - and all debris from the eraser have been removed - before reconnecting the two.
