Lost all calendar events on iPhone after iOS 18.5 update

I Updated my iPhone to 18.5 and my calendar events are completely gone. I have tried everything and contacted Apple multiple times. Right now, I am currently using an old device to see if I can use an older iCloud backup to get the events back. I tried one backup, and it didn’t work, so I am working on another older backup to see if that will work. If not, then I have no other options. There was no restore backup on iCloud.com for the calendar either; it seemed to have deleted as well. There was definitely a glitch in their recent update, as I have checked on Reddit, and Apple said a lot of users are contacting them about this. I use my calendar for everything, and it’s all gone.

I had this issue after updating to 18.5 but was able to get all my calendar events back by doing this:

settings - apps - calendar - calendar accounts - iCloud - iCloud calendar - use on this iPhone toggle off and back on.

right after doing so, all my old events populated again.

Same thing happened to me. I sync my calendar to my iCloud, yet when I tried to restore an older backup, it didn’t show any. This happened to me several years ago as well. I freaking hate apple right now!! They need to stop rushing all these updates.

Sorry syncing to icloud and restoring from icloud backup are two different things.

You sync icloud data to the cloud therefore it isn't part of the icloud backup.

If you followed that link I gave to the OP and if you truly were syncing to the cloud it would restore it for you.

It appears it’s deleted mine too, although initially I didn’t put the two together, but I’ve done the update recently (automatically) went to check my calendar today and notice past events are missing.

I’ve tried a few things after reading some guides on here, but alas it hasn’t worked.

I’ve tried searching to see if just not showing but still on iCloud but isn’t finding anything

I have also updated to 18.5 and noticed all my events that I have catalogued in my calendar have all gone! I have also followed the information online to try to get them back. I have also looked on iCloud to restore but they are all gone from there too, just like others have experienced.

This has all my appointments on there! How else can I get these back as I cannot possibly remember everything that was in there (which is the whole idea of a calendar)!!!

Me too!!! At first I thought my daughter somehow cleared everything but it appears this has happened to lots of people and recently. I just noticed mine within the last week. All events gone. I’ve done all the troubleshooting and contacted Apple. I have a callback with them tomorrow morning so hopefully I get help. Soooo freaking annoyed. 😑

I had the same issue after updating to IOS 18.5. Whether it’s actually this update, or the deprecation of iTunes (which I always successfully used to sync my Outlook calendars to iPhone/iPad) isn’t entirely clear. Apple have been nothing short of hopeless in “supporting” people.

Here’s what I think has happened to me, and forgive me as I’m no expert. So, I downloaded iCloud for windows. It told me I would sync (“sync” being the important part) my outlook calendars with iCloud, as well as my contacts. The contacts were synced, but the Outlook calendars were wiped clean. 16 years of diaries gone in an instant. Unfortunately, my backup from Outlook calendars were backed up to Windows One Drive. So, when iCloud wiped the calendars, the .pst file for the backup on One Drive was automatically updated to wipe that too.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a stand-alone backup of the .pst file done recently, and had to revert to the last one I had for December 2024. I’ve managed to rebuild some of my diaries, but it’s a nightmare. I haven’t had the guts to try it again. If the so-called support from Apple senior team so far is anything to go by, it doesn’t inspire confidence. But there surely must be a way to synchronise data between devices and platforms that doesn’t risk losing valuable information we all depend on.

I’m going to reach out to Apple again tomorrow to see if they’ll walk me through an idiot-proof sync, but I’m not holding my breath waiting for success. One thing’s for sure, I’ll have several backups of the .pst file on several stand-alone drives before I do anything!

Any other ideas or comments welcomed.

I just had the same issue today, the calendar events just went missing suddenly, only difference that i didnt make an update

Try to go to App Store > Calendar, if it shows the cloud logo, click it, download and Open. This works for me, because I think somehow it offloaded itself without me knowing.

Frustrated for few hours because of this issue!! Apple definitely need to do something about this

I’ve tried all the solutions as listed above.

In answer to some questions everything was wiped out of my calendar.

I have looked at sync, which is set to all events.

Nothing has restored back to my calendar and it’s been frustrating for me to add new events and meetings.

The only thing that survived was the birthdays that are pulled over from my contacts (so wouldn’t disappear anyway).

This just happened to me too and there are simply too many posts to wade through in my current state of mind...

HOWEVER....if you have a MacBook, you may be able to retrieve your calendar that way.

When I tried pulling info up on my phone, I changed from "All Events" to a month back....and that was all I got...the month back. None of the upcoming stuff.

I NEVER use the calendar on my MacBook, just my iPhone, but the info was all there in my iCloud on my laptop!

On my MacBook, I went to iCloud and hit the Backups button. My calendar backup was actually turned off, so I hit the toggle just to see what happened.

When I went back to the MacBook calendar, it was all there!! Woohoo! The days I need to take my sister to chemo, upcoming appts of my own, etc. And past info was there as well.

The problem now is that when I try to add those events back into my phone, they show up in the laptop calendar again...so the laptop calendar show duplicates.

I tried to export it to my iPhone and it prompted me to save it as "Siri Suggestions" on my MacBook desktop. I assume it came up as that because I enter 90% of my calendar events in via Siri.

I tried adding the Siri Suggestions calendar on my iPhone settings, but it didn't help.

I screenshotted the upcoming 3-4 months of events on my MacBook in case this happens again... what a huge pain.

On top of everything, I've also found that my iPhone locked me out of my main Gmail account (in the Apple Mail app) and wouldn't let me back in. I deleted the account, thinking I'd reenter it...and now not only does it loop me in authentication screens for 20 minutes, it's now also deleted the inbox to my other Gmail account, that was still on the phone.

HUGE HUGE HUGE failure APPLE!!!
