Apple TV 4K, Continuity Camera with iPhone 12 Mini, voice echo on remote end (Fix)
I routinely have facetime calls with my parents where they use an iPad on their end, and I use my iPhone 12 mini on my end as a continuity camera with my Apple TV 4K. When I place a facetime directly on my end to their number, they hear an echo of themselves back on their iPad. I get no echo of myself playing through my soundbar.
I have found a solution for now that works every time I have tried it.
Before making the call, I connect my phone to any Bluetooth device with 2-way audio. I have tried this with some earbuds (not apple brand) and a Bluetooth speaker that can do 2-way calls from the speaker.
Once the Bluetooth device is connected to the phone, and the phone it activated as a continuity camera on the apple TV (order doesn't matter), place the facetime call from the apple TV and there will be no echo.
Once the call is active, the audio will use whatever speakers are on the apple TV, and the mic on the phone, and ignore the Bluetooth device. You can even disconnect the Bluetooth device or turn it off, and there will still be no echo.
This is obviously a software issue, and it would be nice if Apple would fix it, but for now this isn't a bad work around. I hope it helps someone else!
