How to fix AirPods 4 rattling noise issue?

Hi everyone,

I bought AirPods 4 with ANC this winter. Recently, the right one has started making a loud rattling noise - as if sticking a piece of paper in a ventilator - when turning the ANC on. When it’s fully off, the sound goes away. I live 2h away from the nearest Apple Store and do not want to drive 4hours to be told I have to buy a replacement when this pair isn’t even a year old …

That's super annoying, you shouldn't have to buy a replacement so soon.


First, try these,

  1. Try to clean them : How to clean your AirPods - Apple Support
  2. Reset AirPods: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support
  3. Ear Tip Fit Test: A good seal is crucial for ANC. Choose your AirPods Pro ear tips and use the Ear Tip Fit Test - Apple Support
  4. Check Firmware and make sure your iPhone has the latest iOS, and your AirPods firmware is updated (Settings > Bluetooth > [Your AirPods Name] (i icon)). Updates can fix issues. About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple


If those don't fix it:

Contact Apple Support: Use the "Apple Support" app or call them or next steps without a 4-hour drive.
