Screen distance keeps turning on despite multiple attempts to disable it on my device

i have screen distance on my device, and i’ve turned it off FIVE TIMES, and it keeps turning itself back on. nobody is messing with it, i’m the only one in control, and i’m extremely frustrated because i don’t normally watch videos at arms length.
