Need to replace my aging Apple USB Super Drive to burn CDs to my 2017 iMac

Worked perfectly until recently ... now it takes seemingly forever and makes a grinding noise while working. It works, but no idea for how much longer.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 13.7

I ordered the:

Aumdie External CD/DVD Drive for Laptop, USB 3.0 CD Burner with 2 USB Ports and 2 TF/SD Card Slots, DVD Player for Laptop, Mac, PC, Windows 11/10/8.1/7

From Amazon, $29.00. Works ok, a little slower than the Apple, but not much, have used it several times now with no problems.

Apple has officially discontinued the Apple USB SuperDrive—they stopped selling it on their U.S. online store around August 2024, and by October 2024 it was listed as "sold out or unavailable" globally.

However, that still leave you with two options:

  1. Get a new or refurbished SuperDrive for a third-party source.
  2. Get a non-SuperDrive model from another manufacturer ... like: LG or ASUS
