screentime reports usage for multiple apps simultaneously

I’ve been having a strange issue for a while and it’s hard to explain without an example. Basically, when I’m using Instagram and then switch over to Safari, the time I spend back on Instagram gets recorded as time spent on Safari. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, does anyone know how to fix it?

Follow up: Are you just reply botting? Because your response makes zero sense in the context of what I actually described. Not only is it completely dismissive, it’s also just wrong.

Screen Time does not track app usage based on whether an app is running in the background or using system resources. It tracks the app that is actively on screen and being used by the person with certain exceptions. That is how it’s supposed to work according to Apple’s own documentation.

In my case, I was clearly using Instagram, and yet Screen Time logged that time under both Instagram and Safari. That should not be happening, regardless of whether Safari was open in the background. Your explanation doesn’t match how Screen Time is designed to function.
