How can I stop my messages from appearing on my husband's iPhone?

We have same email and Apple account. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. We have for years. I have fixed this before but don’t remember how

You guys sharing the same Apple Account will cause this. Apple Account’s aren’t meant to be shared and each individual person needs to have their own account for things to work properly such as messages, calls, and more.
