How can I open an AirTag battery cover that won’t turn?

There are three possibilities here:

1. The battery was placed incorrectly and not allowing you to press down to open the cover, and/or
2. The battery has swollen to a point that it will prevent you from pressing down to open the cover.
3. The cover is already in the proper position to allow you to open the cover, but because either the cover or the tag itself is damaged, it will not open.

If you don't want to go to an Apple Store, then the other option is to go to an Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area to have them take a look to see if they can assist you with this. If you don't want to do that either, than there is nothing anyone here can do for you ... and you can contact Apple Support directly.

Replace your AirTag battery

1. Press down on the polished stainless steel battery cover of your AirTag and rotate counterclockwise until the cover stops rotating.
