iPhone 15 Pro some incoming calls don't ring.

I've checked and rechecked all of my iPhone settings, and I still get calls that don't ring. I was waiting for a call from a dr this morning, and it went straight to vm. No rings. No call notification. I did get the VM notification. Two weeks ago, I was waiting for a call from the car dealership where my car was being serviced. My car should have been ready at around 11:30. I didn't receive any calls or voicemails all day. Finally, around 3 pm, I called them. They said they'd been calling me since 11:30. They had called 3 times. None of those calls appeared on my phone anywhere. When I went to pick up my car, I showed the guy I had zero notifications. He called me while I was standing right there. My phone didn't react at all, and his number is in my contacts.

I've been googling this issue for weeks, and none of the usual causes for iPhones not ringing apply. My settings don't block calls in any way. Interesting note: The dr that called today was also in my contacts.

There are so many complaints about this issue, not just for my iPhone model. What is the problem and why can't anyone solve it? Please, don't post another useless list of all the common causes. I know what they are, and I've tried them all, numerous times. I even reset my phone. Nothing fixes the issue.

Technology can be extremely frustrating, can't it?

To put things in a bit of perspective, there are estimated to be about 1.5 billion active iPhones. So, until we start seeing complaints in the hundreds of thousands, it's probably not a pervasive issue. But that's cold comfort if you're one of the people who's having the problem.

If you haven't already done it, I would suggest that you back up your phone. Then, restore it to factory state using a computer. This will load a fresh copy of iOS. Log back into your Apple Account but don't restore your back up and don't download any third-party apps. Avoid making any changes in Settings, especially Focus. Test it for a couple of days. If it works consistently, it may be that there was something you installed previously that was causing the issue. At that point, you need to decide what to do next. Do you restore the backup and try to figure out what that thing is? Or do you not use the backup and rebuild everything?

Also, have you talked to your carrier?

Thank you. Yes, all those people who told us for years that tech would make our lives so much easier must've been high. 😉

OK, I did this. I didn't do the rest because my iPhone is the only phone I have. I can't be without it and its apps for any prolonged period.

I just called Verizon. After 1.5 hours on hold, I spoke with tech support. The end result is that he's sending me a network extender. Free. (They're $250.) We'll see if this solves the issue. Thank you for suggesting that I call them.

One possible culprit could be something in your notification settings or Focus modes, which can sometimes filter out incoming calls without making it obvious.

Even if you think Focus is turned off, it might be set to allow only certain people or apps to get through, which could explain why some calls don’t ring. It’s possible that a setting somewhere is muting calls from contacts or numbers that aren’t specifically marked as “allowed,” and you might not even realize it’s happening.

Double-check your Focus modes, including making sure Do Not Disturb isn’t unintentionally enabled, and also to review how notifications are grouped or summarized in the settings. It’s worth ensuring that calls from contacts or important numbers are marked as "Always Allowed" in Focus, and that you're not unintentionally silencing calls with certain filters.

Here’s another possible fix, if it’s not a Focus filter.

Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics

  • Adjust “Ringtone and Alert Volume”
  • Toggle “Change with Buttons” to let volume buttons control ringer volume when not on a call

Until you tell us, specifically, what things you've tried, we don't know what you've tried. Your idea of "all" may, in fact, not be everything.

Additionally, troubleshooting is very tedious process. You start with the simple things and test them and then move down the list.

Yes, I read your question completely. I also read that you stated to another poster than none of the tips worked. The list I provided has other tips that are not normally listed, and if someone has not read all of Apple's support document, they wouldn't necessarily be aware of.

Thank you for your kindness of volunteers around the world that provide help here on a user to user forum that Apple does not participate in. Don't expect more assistance.

Please accept my sincere apology for letting my frustration get the better of me. After doing such an extensive search for solutions here and elsewhere, and seeing the same suggestions over and over, I took it out on you, and I'm sorry. Adding to my frustration is the fact that so many people have posted this same problem, and the only answers seem to be a cut and paste version of suggestions. I did read your list of suggestions, and I had already checked/done everything you listed. More than once, actually. Missing numerous calls AND not finding answers is doubly frustrating. If I were the only one with this issue, that would be one thing. But to see so many posts (again, here and on other forums), from people with the same issue is mind boggling.
