How do I fix iPhone 15 Pro Max not ringing for calls from unknown numbers?

Hello - I am based in the U.K. I have an iPhone 15 pro max & and iPhone 14 Plus. My main phone is the iPhone 15 pro max. In the past, whenever a call came through to the main phone, the other one also rung at the same time, but I noticed this stopped quite a few months ago.

In September of this year, my main phone updated to software 26.0 and since this time, people with unknown numbers who I’m familiar with are having a hard time getting through i.e. the call is going straight to voice mail and at the same time, my phone is not even ringing. On Friday, I had an appointment and one of people with the unknown number actually called my iPhone while I was seated right across from him, and it didn’t even ring, but he said it went straight to voicemail mail. The volume was indeed high enough to hear. The call didn’t even register in the Recents call log.

I would be so grateful if someone can assist me in fixing this issue.

Settings > Apps > Phone > Screen Unknown Callers - if Silence is on, that would be why. Choose a different option, like Ask Reason for Calling or Never. Note: This is on iOS 26. If you're still on iOS 18, you'd only have Silence Unknown Callers and you can turn that off.

Thank you for changing the title, it's perfect! Sorry I'm new to this....

I actually had it on Ask Reason for Calling and the person said it just went straight to voicemail plus it didn't even ring. So now I have changed it to the first one i.e Never - calls from unsaved numbers will ring, and missed calls will be displayed on the Recents lists. What does unsaved numbers mean?

The iPhone 14 Plus software is 18.7.1 and Silence Unknown Callers was already turned off. Do you feel because they used to ring at the same time it could have blocked something that I need to clear? I will ask the person to phone again and see what happens.

Unsaved numbers are numbers not saved in contacts. I doubt you need to clear anything you may have blocked. And you're welcome. Personally, I use the Ask for Reason for calling. Even if it doesn't work as it should, which has happened on occasion, if whoever is calling me really needs me, they'll leave a message and I won't be bothered with my phone ringing for a number I don't recognize.
