How can I validate the purchase date of my iPhone 13 Pro Max without receipt?

How to validate the purchase date without a reciept? As I activated my iPhone 13 Pro Max 3 months ago, and now it gets white- screen. No warranty was granted without validating the purchase date.

I only keep the original box

"the warranty coverage starts from the date of activation, not purchasing date."

False.

The warranty clock starts ticking on the date the device is originally sold by Apple or an authorized retailer.

You can check your warranty status here: View Coverage - AppleCare & Warranty

Though it's not impossible, it is extremely unlikely that you purchased a new iPhone 13 Pro Max from any authorized retailer 3 months ago.

So far.....with the information that you have provided......This sounds like you bought a used or refurbished phone from an unauthorized dealer. The phone would have no Apple warranty in that case.

The iPhone 13 was discontinued about a year ago and might be as old as much as 2 years depending on when the iPhone was originally placed into service.

Tap Settings > General > About and look for Warranty Coverage or Coverage. What is the exact message there? Does it say that the warranty has expired?

Tap Settings > General > About and look for the Model Number. What is the Model Number?

Now, tap directly on the Model Number and a 5 character phrase that begins with "A" will appear. Example.......Axxxx. What is the 5 character phrase that appears on your iPhone?

I purchased it very long time ago( shall be above 1 year+), and I just opened the sealed box and started to activate it around April 2025.

Not sure about this: It needs to validate the purchase date, just because I started to use the iPhone over 1 year after purchasing it?

There's nothing to validate. The warranty clock started ticking the day it was sold. It expired long ago.

You have no warranty. It doesn't matter when you activated it.

Hi thanks for the response. The box was sealed before I open and activate. I’m pretty sure that it was purchased from an authorized retailer. I check Apple.com by inputting the serial No. , and it showed “purchase date not validated, Apple is unable to provide information about your coverage. Please contact Apple Support to update your product’s date of purchase.”

The point is that— even if it is old/second hand, there shall be a date showed somewhere to confirm whether the warranty is expired or not——-If the iPhone is really a used one in that case, at least I can learn from checking the Serial no. to get a date to understand the whole situation. It is quite troublesome and hard to go back and find the reciept.

I guess the reason is that I purchased the iPhone over 1 year ago(maybe longer as I cannot remember), and I started to use and activate it only 3 months ago in 2025, then it got white screen yesterday. When I check the warranty coverage information through serial No., I noted that the information is not updated and I need to find back my reciept.

Whilst for my iPhone 14 pro max, I activated it 1 year later after purchasing it. Then the warranty coverage starts from the date of activation, not purchasing date.

I think there shall be a date in the Apple system to justify whether the warranty can be granted or not—-once I open the sealed box and activate the iPhone 13 PM.

The above statement about AppleCare beginning on the date of activation is NOT correct. AppleCare begins the day a device leaves Apple inventory and has NEVER been tied to the date it was first put in service.

PS: I purchased it 1-2+ year ago,(maybe around 2023)— cannot remember. So we need to open the box and use the iPhone upon purchasing it to ensure the warranty.

I start to use it in April 2025.

It's unclear why this seems a difficult concept for you to understand?

The warranty begins the day a device leaves Apple or an Apple Authorized Sellers inventory, most often it is the date of purchase. The date you opened the box and activated it has NOTHING to do with when warranty starts. It's that simple.

Understand. This is different from my region, I just called Apple CS, and CS said that the warranty period is granted based on a combination of purchasing date and the start date of using it(I.e. not the purchasing date only)—— But I need to find back my receipt and upload.

Thats why I m kind of surprise for the answers here.

Here is Apple's published warranty for iOS based devices --> Legal - iOS Warranty Document Us - Apple

Contained in their legal warranty document is the following:

Apple Inc. of One Apple Park Way, Cupertino, California, U.S.A. 95014 (“Apple”) warrants the Apple-branded iPhone, iPad, iPod, Apple TV, HomePod, or Apple Vision Pro hardware product and the Apple-branded accessories contained in the original packaging (“Apple Product”) against defects in materials and workmanship when used normally in accordance with Apple's published guidelines for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase by the end-user purchaser ("Warranty Period"). Apple’s published guidelines include but are not limited to information contained in technical specifications, user manuals and service communications.

I'm sorry, but you did not answer any of the questions that we asked......the purpose of the questions was to try to provide you with answers to your questions. If you are interested in answers, let's try this again please:

  • Tap Settings > General > About and look for Warranty Coverage or Coverage. What is the exact message there? Does it say that the warranty has expired?

  • Tap Settings > General > About and look for the Model Number. What is the Model Number?

  • Now, tap directly on the Model Number and a 5 character phrase that begins with "A" will appear. Example.......Axxxx. What is the 5 character phrase that appears on your iPhone?

I really want to try this on my iPhone 13 PM, but it got white-screen, So I cannot do anything on it.

Anyway thanks for the advice, I will try it once the white screen problem was fixed.

what I can do now is to check the Apple. Com by inputting the serial No. of iPhone 13 PM ——it showed quite different information. My other iPhones/iPads all show very clear purchase date and warranty expiry date. That’s why I m quite confusing.

Jul 23, 2025 10:09 AM in response to KiltedTim

yes this is where I checked the warranty information, and it showed “purchase date not validated”. While I checked my iPhone 14 Pro max in the same way , it showed purchased date:XX/xx/2022, and warranty expiry date xx/xx/2024(with different starting months). From this information I guess that the warranty starts from the day I actually use it?

Anyway, seems that I cannot get a date info. for my iPhone 13, unless I spend time to find back my receipt and upload.

I don't know how many times we have to say it. The warranty clock starts ticking on the day the device is originally sold by Apple or an authorized retailer.

The standard warranty is 1 year from the date of sale.

You purchased it over 1 year ago.

You do NOT have a warranty. "validating" the purchase date doesn't change that.

If it needs service, you will have to pay for service.

Jul 23, 2025 10:31 AM in response to PYY123

As Apple Care service starts from the date of purchase/manufacturing(? Not sure)

You already have the answer, but we will try to say this in a different way.

If you bought the phone directly from Apple, the warranty starts on the day that you purchased the phone.

If you bought the phone from an authorized Apple dealer, the warranty starts on the day that you purchased the phone from the authorized dealer.

No matter whether you purchased the phone directly from Apple or from an authorized dealer, you purchased the phone more than a year ago. The warranty expired one year from the date of your purchase.
