iPhone screen is unresponsive after iOS 18.6 update

Force your iPhone to restart:

1. Press and quickly release the volume up button.
2. Press and quickly release the volume down button.
3. Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo (this might take longer than 10 seconds).

If that doesn’t work, then unfortunately what you have described could be a possible hardware failure that occurred just after a software update.

While this is unfortunate, it is not uncommon.

However, only an Apple Genius can review the cause and provide a complete solution.

And remember this procedure. I do this after EVERY iOS update and I never have any issues after updates.

Is the battery in your iPhone, the original battery? iPhone 12 was released 5 years ago. The battery could certainly be failing at this point. Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health - what does it show? If below 80% the battery is failing and you need to pay to have the battery replaced.

I know you want to blame this on the iOS 18.6 update. If the update caused such issues, it wouldn't just choose your phone. It would affect everyone's phone. This forum would be flooded with complaints if it was the update, yet it's not.

Otherwise, it's time to schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar to have your phone tested. Smilin-Brian provided links in his response you can use to do that
