Recommendations for flight simulator joystick controllers on iMac

The only "games" I am interested in are flight simulators. I have a new Mac for other reasons but would like to play flight sims as a sideline. It's clear that Apple has decided to make it difficult to connect most known joystick controllers, though I can't see why??

Has anyone a recommendation? Surely there's at least one more Mac user in the world who likes flight sims??
