Subscription charged when cancelled years ago

Recently, I was notified my PayPal account was disabled for fraudulent activity. On June 30, I began a new subscription for an app. Someway, somehow this also triggered a renewal in a subscription for Discord. What’s wrong:

A) I fund my subscription directly from the Discord platform and is charged 2.99/month renewed on the 3rd of each month. The last charge for my Discord Subscription was October 7, 2023

B) The subscription was 9.99/month, and this newfound subscription was not applied to my existing discord account. The app does not even acknowledge the 9.99 subscription vs my normal 2.99 subscription

C) I attached a limited fund card to my PayPal that receives my Apple purchases. The 9.99 subscription put the balance above my authorized limited fund account had and bounced to a card I did not want. When I paid the credit card, I saw the balance and reported fraud because I was not aware of the charge. This locks down my PayPal account because the payment was made via PayPal.

D) When I contacted Apple to report, I did not receive a response. Contacting Discord (which doesn’t actually have an option to discuss payment issues) comes back to with: “Thanks for writing in and for sharing screenshots with us. I'm so sorry for the continued trouble here. Upon checking here, it seems that the charge was on Apple side.

Unfortunately, because all purchases through the iOS App Store are managed through Apple, Discord unfortunately can not provide further support.

However, if Apple's automated system did not approve you for a refund, could you directly contact Apple's support team at Subscriptions and Billing - Official Apple Support to explain the situation to get further assistance?

Once again, I apologize for the situation and if there's any other questions you may have, please let me know here.”

Overall, this has been a less than ideal experience and has been without explanation.

First see if you can recognise the charge

How to see what you were charged for

  1. To see your purchase history, go to reportaproblem.apple.com.
  2. Sign in with your Apple Account to see a list of purchases.
  3. If you want to see family members' purchases, select the Apple Account button and choose a family member.
  4. To see the full receipt, including tax, tap or click the date. Multiple purchases, including subscriptions, might be grouped onto one charge.

If the charge is for a subscription that you no longer want, you can cancel the subscription. You can also view your Purchase History on your device.

If you checked reportaproblem.apple.com and your emailed receipts and you're still not sure why you were charged, contact Apple Support.
