iPhone 16 Pro – Incorrect Purchase and Warranty Date on Apple Website

Hello everyone!

I recently bought a brand new iPhone 16 Pro in May 2025. However, when I checked the serial number on Apple’s official website (FWX0G****), it showed that the purchase date was April 1, 1978, and that the warranty expired in July 1978.

Obviously, this can’t be correct, since the iPhone 16 Pro was only released in 2024.

I’m trying to understand whether my device is genuine, and why such a strange error appears in Apple’s system.

Unfortunately, I can’t access Apple Support Chat — it doesn’t appear on the support page, possibly because of my region.

Has anyone experienced something like this before? Any advice on what to do or how to contact Apple would be really helpful!

Thank you in advance!

I bought the iPhone in May 2025 from a retail electronics store in Russia.
I was told it was a brand new device and it looks completely new.

Apple does not do business in Russia. Apple products are not legitimately available at all in Russia.

No support for is available from Apple in Russia.

The seller lied. It may have been sealed in the box, but it was, at best, gray market, and at worst, stolen.

It has no warranty.

And yet, based on the information that you have provided, it may not be. If it were, the purchase date would be correct and there would be a message that the phone is covered by AppleCare.

There are no "official" Apple dealers in Russia, so the dealer that you purchased the phone from did not buy the phone from Apple, the dealer bought the phone from another dealer in another country. It may be new, or it may not.

The bottom line here is that the phone has no warranty.

The dealer that you bought the phone from in Russia had no way to officially register the phone with Apple, even if they wanted to do this.

Hopefully, the phone is operating correctly and will not require service, because it will have no warranty coverage, even if you take the phone to an authorized Apple service shop in another country.

There are NO official Apple Sellers or Service Providers in Russian. It may be new. But if you need warranty support there is none to be had in Russia any longer. Whoever you bought the phone from would have to have imported it from a Gray Market retailer. You should check with the seller to see if they plan to offer any warranty on the phone. There really isn't anything anyone here on this user to user only forum can do to help you.

I have the original sales receipt, but the Apple website still shows a purchase date of 1978 and expired warranty.

Could this be because the store didn’t properly register the sale with Apple?

Or is it related to Apple no longer officially operating in Russia?

I really appreciate your help!
