I am looking to trade in my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I did the same operation exactly two years ago, and I was able to trade my iPhone directly at the Apple store, i financed it with the Apple card and paid montlhy. I selected no carrier as I'm with Spectrum but it looks like this option is not available anymore. Is that correct?

If you finance the phone, you need to choose a carrier at the time of order. As long as you are not using carrier financing, however, I'm almost 100% positive the phone will still be unlocked and you can choose another carrier after you receive the phone. BUT......you should contact Apple to confirm.

I believe that if you finance through Apple, you will be required to select a carrier - but the phone will be unlocked, do you can switch to another carrier after a short while.
If you finance through a carrier plan on the Apple site, your phone will be locked to that carrier.
But check with Apple to make sure.
I just checked; Apple still allows trade-ins with the purchase of a new iPhone.
