Missing satellite feature on iPhone 16e with T-Mobile

The satellite feature is completely missing from my iPhone 16e.

I got it new from T-Mobile and I am in the continental US.

Satellite demo is missing from control center and from the emergency SOS.

I have a company plan and other coworkers with iPhone 14 are able to see the satellite demo. We do not have T-Satellite. There is no company management profile on the phone.

Apple support has tried with network reset, reset iphone, recover iphone/reinstall ios. We've even done as far as replacing the logic board on the phone and we tested moving my sim to another iPhone 16e at the apple store with no luck. They've confirmed my model should support the satellite.

Exhausted all options with the workers at the store, but they said I had to go back to T-mobile, might be some setting on my line that's not working.

With T-Mobile support, we've replace the esim and refreshed the line on their end.

Next step, I'm trying to get a free trial of T-satellite and maybe that can force some setting somewhere to start working.

Any other ideas? Everyone I've talked to from Apple and T-Mobile are confused.

I was able to get the service manager at my local apple store this week to look at it. He told me he had another person come through with the same problem recently, they had bought two 16e phones and the Satellite Messaging (SM) worked on one, but not the other. The condition for "working" being that the satellite messaging demo was available under settings -> apps -> messages, he did not actually go out into the woods with customers to test.

I've since been told that a few other recently purchased 16e phones in my fleet also do not have working SM, but not 100% of them.

Service Manager suggested turning wifi calling off and then on, then waiting 48 hours, but this did not make a difference for me. I have also cycled the carrier provided cellular option provided by Rogers, with no difference. I tested this phone in a no-reception area and it did not offer the option to connect to satellite, where my 16pro did at the same time.

At this point it sounds like apple is aware of the problem but does not have a fix for it. They also would not replace the problem phone for me, as they don't believe it's a hardware problem.

I also double checked the model # on my problem phone to make sure it wasn't somehow a unit from a market that does not have satellite messaging available.

I reset my phone and had a coworker on the same plan with a 14 and working satellite activate their account and line on my phone and the satellite option is still missing from control center and emergency sos.

I went back to the apple store and activated sim on one of their 15 pros, and satellite was working, unfortunately their store managed phone could not transfer the sim back to my phone, so could not troubleshoot any further and ping ponged me back to T-Mobile. Maybe it's an issue with T-Mobile blocking it on my SIM locked phone? , but the t-mobile iphone 16e page says it's available:

"Roadside Assistance, Emergency SOS, and Messages via Satellite: Services are included for free for two years with the activation of any iPhone 14 or later model. Connection and response times vary based on

location, site conditions, and other factors. Messages via satellite requires a carrier plan. SMS messaging via satellite is available on supported carriers. SMS message rates may apply. See support.apple.com/kb/HT213885 for more information. "

In any case, as it's a company phone, I can't spend any more time on this and have already asked my company to contact tmobile to get new sim, and reprovision the line 3 times, due sim activation and transfer issues when testing with the apple store managed phones. I can't ask them to keep wasting time on something that isn't necessary for work.

To summarize:

1) My new 16e is sim locked with T-mobile and satellite option is missing. Other coworkers with 14 on same plan have satellite option. We don't have T-Satellite, but carrier said nothing was specifically disabled on my line.

2) Did all the basic tests up to recovering the phone and re-installing IOS - Satellite missing.

3) Replaced iphone logic board. Satellite is still missing.

4) Transferred to another 16e at apple store and satellite still missing.

5) T-mobile gave new sim, then completely re-provisioned my line - satellite missing.

6) Coworker with it working on iphone 14 transferred to my phone, satellite missing.

7) Transferred my sim to one of the apple store's 15 pro - Satellite option available.

Apple store claims there's no hardware issue. Maybe it's because it's sim locked with T-Mobile and I got it after they launched T-satellite?

The following is extracted from this link --> Connect to a satellite with your iPhone - Apple Support (IN)

"You'll need to be outside on relatively open terrain and with a clear view of the sky. Trees with light foliage may slow down the connection, and dense foliage may block it. Hills or mountains, canyons, and tall structures can also block the connection.

If you don’t have Location Services turned on for Satellite Connection, you’ll be prompted to turn it on before you start the demo.

Satellite connectivity for Apple satellite features isn’t offered on iPhone models purchased in Armenia, Belarus, China mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Russia."

There’ve been a few reports here of that satellite messaging feature being missing.

Here are some questions to verify whether you’re in a country or region where the satellite communications feature is available, and if that is all as required, I’d then check with Apple:

No satellite option or Satellite Connecti… - Apple Community

In that thread, Apple has reportedly swapped the iPhone.

note: If you have cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, the Satellite option in Settings won't appear

The satellite demo appears on my iPhone in Control Center and SOS Settings and I have both Wifi and Cellular coverage.
