YouTube is buffering on 5G/4G after updating to iOS 18.6.1 on iPhone

I upgraded my iPhone 16Pro Max yesterday afternoon. After the upgrade YouTube does not work on 5G/4G. It works for less than 2 minutes and the starts buffering. I have enough data so local ISP issue is ruled out.

YouTube Audio Not Working After an Update:

A. Close All Apps:

An app is likely not responding, or is pending something. So, save what need be, and then close all apps. Hold you finger down as you swipe up. Then, close all of these open apps, by swiping up quickly for all apps.

B. Force Restart your iPhone:

Once all is closed Force Restart your iPhone. Go here: Force Restart iPhone - Apple Support

C. YouTube App:

Are you using YouTube.com? Or are your using the YouTube App? If the app, remove it, and then add it back.

D. Report this to Apple...

Question is: "Just how many people have actually reported this to Apple?"

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

"Thanks John for the reply. I have already completed the steps you have mentioned.: I am using the YouTube app. The app was working perfectly OK before the upgrade. All other apps do not respond on 5G/4G data after the upgrade. They buffer and then start. Emails/Whatsapp just keep on connecting and then fails to download any new messages. All apps works fine on Wifi only. This is a serious issue with the new upgrade and Apple need to fix this ASAP."

Clear the Caches:

Clear "System Data"/"Other":

Being they are not responding and are buffering, clear your caches. Clear the storage named "System Data" (formerly called "Other"). It basically contains unnecessary files such as caches that are used for system ease of use - all of which gather over time: How to Clear "Other" in your iPhone's Storage - Use Backup - User Tips. Caches would be being used for remembrance of application use.

The app developer may not have updated their software to ensure compatibility with the iOS version your device is currently running.

If you encounter any challenges with third-party applications, the best course of action is to directly contact the app developer for further assistance. Here's a brief guide on how to do it:

  1. Identify the app developer.
  2. Visit their website or app store listing.
  3. Look for their contact information or support channels.
  4. Clearly describe the issue you are facing.
  5. Provide any necessary information they may need.
  6. Follow their instructions and provide feedback.
  7. Be patient and follow up if needed.

By reaching out to the app developer, you increase your chances of receiving accurate and personalized support for the challenges you're experiencing. To contact an App developer --> How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
