First an update failure on iPhone (18.6.1) and soon after an update failure on iPad (18.6.2)
I’ve been backing up and updating iPads and iPhones since they were invented…. It’s been my choice to do those backups and updates through my Mac computer (not iCloud). Years ago via iTunes and more recently through a Finder window on the Mac…
NEVER had a failure before and now in the past 5 days, I’ve had first a failure with an iPhone ONLY update from 18.6 to 18.6.1 (iPhone 14 Pro) and then today almost the same identical failure attempting to update my iPad from 18.6 to 18.6.2 (iPad Pro, 12.9 inch, 5th Generation)…. The Mac I connect to is running macOS Sequoia 15.6…
For the iPhone, Apple support helped me and we used the button presses required to enter recovery mode…. From that mode, two options are to attempt again to “update” or to “recover”, the latter which erases all data and sets the device back to factory settings…. Then a subequent restore from backup is required…. With Apple support on the phone, we tried “update” twice and both times that failed. We then moved on to attempt to “restore” back to factory defaults and EVEN THAT failed on a first try…. But then it DID succeed on a 2nd attempt…. Then a long process to restore the phone from a backu I always do right before attempting any updates and I had my phone back…
Then today with the iPad, it failed to update in almost the same way as the phone days earlier…. Then after entering “recovery mode” on the iPad, a first attempt to “update” failed but a 2nd attempt succeeded…. But oh my… Never a failure in years of doing iPad and iPhone updates and now two, one on the iphone and now a few days later, one on the iPad…. Different updates…. Different cables used to connect to the iPhone vs the iPad…. The only common hardware is my very updated MacBook Pro computer….
Any ideas??? I now have yet another update sitting waiting for the iPhone and even one for the Mac but I’m very much afraid to try till I learn what might be going on???? Thoughts???
