How can a photo be used as wallpaper on iPhone 16 Plus without growing huge?

I've had the same issue since I bought the 1st Gen. iPhone and have never found a solution. Pinching to resize doesn't work. When you release it, it explands again. I've tried everything online, but nada. Does anyone know the trick ? (if there is one.)

Thanxks All, not the biggest prob. but an annoying one!

iPhone 16 Plus, iOS 18

If the photo doesn’t match your iPhone’s size (2532 × 1170 px, approximately) on the 16 Plus, the system won’t let you shrink it below a certain size by pinching.

Pre-resize the photo (As suggested by WheelieNick) before setting it as wallpaper

  • Use the Photos app’s Edit → Crop → size (2532 × 1170 px).
