eSIM network switching and connection issues on iPhone 13

Subject: Network switching issues on iPhone 13 with eSIM

Question:

I have an iPhone 13. My Kyivstar operator is connected via eSIM, and Vodafone is connected via a physical SIM card.

When I am on the move (for example, in a car), the connection on the eSIM occasionally drops, while the physical SIM maintains a stable connection.

Additionally, I noticed that switching from Edge or 3G to LTE (4G) takes a long time on the eSIM. On the physical SIM, switching happens quickly, as expected.

Question: Is this normal behavior for eSIM, or could there be an issue with network settings/operator?

There should not be any discernible performance difference between any particular carrier’s nanoSIM and an eSIM.

However, you have 2x different carriers; each with their own specific configuration of as-provisioned on-phone account settings and land-side infrastructure …

… so your experience is not a true Apples-to-Apples comparison.

Two carriers also make the troubleshooting of any “handover” issues challenging. 🙁
