I blocked a harasser and now they've found a way to send iMessages despite that

On August 23, 2025, I blocked an ex-friend who reached out to me out of the blue. He was a toxic presence in my life and it had been years since we'd talked or communicated in any way. Despite blocking him on all platforms, including my iPhone 15 Pro Max, he was able to send me messages on iMessage on September 1, 2025 and on September 2, 2025.

I've seen some articles online that suggest a person can change their AppleID in order to bypass blocking of their phone number. Might this be what he did? Is there any way to block him more thoroughly with Apple technology or do I need to figure out what additional steps to take?

Thank you.

iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 18

Messages tells you the source of the message, whether that is a phone number or email address. If either of those are changed, you can block that one as well. You cannot stop a person from creating a new Apple Account or changing their phone number through their cell provider.

Also note, the sender has no idea that you have blocked them. There is no message on their phone that tells them that they are blocked. If you have "Read Receipts" turned on in your Message Settings, they can confirm that they are not blocked if it shows "Read", but that lack of that message does not mean they are blocked, as you could simply have turned it off.
