iPadOS 26 AZERTY keyboard adds large space after comma on iPad Pro

What’s wrong with the comma on the Azerty keyboard in iPadOS 26?It inserts a way too big space after a comma. This is weird, right?

PS If you want to include technical character info in your report to Apple: The ,/? key on the iso azerty screen keyboard should be producing the characters U+002C Comma and U+003F Question Mark, but instead is producing U+FFOC Fullwidth Comma and U+FF1F Fullwidth Question Mark.

There is a difference between ,and , the rounded version of the comma causes the issue.

There is only one comma character. Your rounded one seems to be from a Chinese font, maybe PingFang SC, and is double width which is common for such fonts. Are you sometimes writing with a Chinese font?

Do you have the same issue with a monolingual keyboard? And in all apps?

@Michael that is very helpful. Just one additional detail might be useful. You got the model number MY2H2FD/A which is actually the Apple stock code which also identifies things like color. If you tap on the MY2H2FD/A code it will change to a model number like A1234.

With that extra detail it sounds like there is probably enough for anyone who can demonstrate the problem to submit a Bug Report direct to Apple using the official Feedback pages. I don’t think there is a major need to juggle iso and ansi layouts if the fault is demonstrated.

Product Feedback - Apple

The ideal format for a bug report would include something like:

Details of the hardware and software, example, iPad 12.9 4th Gen model A####, iPadOS 26.0.

Short steps to follow to demonstrate the bug (basically as you tried, mention the selected keyboard language and AZERTY layout)

Observed result including which app you tried typing to see the double width commas

Expected result.

If you are able to include a link to mention this thread it would probably help, if the feedback page will allow it.

On my iPad, English (US) QWERTY has a different layout to English (US) AZERTY: maybe one is ansi and the other iso? The US QWERTY keyboard has z next to left shift and a horizontal enter key, the US AZERTY keyboard has a key with the signs < and > on it next to left shift and a vertical enter key.

US AZERTY has the issue described here, US QWERTY does not.

Edit: I just saw this: for the English (US) keyboard I can choose between QWERTY and QWERTY – ISO. AZERTY doesn't have this choice.

I haven't been able to find an ISO layout for AZERTY, only QWERTY. I have two iPads with a big screen, one is a bit older and not updated to iOS 26, the newer one is updated and has the comma issue. Here are screenshots of the keyboard layouts, there is a clear difference. Like I mentioned before the return key is shifted upwards by a few pixels and cut off. Also note the Dollar sign on one of the keyboards and the Pound sign on the other. In the settings of both iPads the keyboard layouts are the same.

I have the same issue since updating to iPadOS 26. Here are my keyboard settings:

The problem applies not only to commas, but to question marks: ,,,???

You definitely produced Chinese full width commas and question marks above, but when I use the English uk azerty keyboard on my iPad here, I only produce the English versions: ,,,??? I’m mystified what could explain the difference…

I'm happy to provide any details that may be important:

iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (4th generation)

Model number MY2H2FD/A

4 row keyboard

Please let me know if you need anything else.

I just tried this: I removed all AZERTY keyboards to leave only QWERTY. The bug does not exist in QWERTY. I then added an AZERTY keyboard: it has the bug.

I don't know how to switch between ansi and iso, but if somebody can explain how to do this I will try it.
