iPadOS 26 AZERTY keyboard adds large space after comma on iPad Pro

What’s wrong with the comma on the Azerty keyboard in iPadOS 26?It inserts a way too big space after a comma. This is weird, right?

PS If you want to include technical character info in your report to Apple: The ,/? key on the iso azerty screen keyboard should be producing the characters U+002C Comma and U+003F Question Mark, but instead is producing U+FFOC Fullwidth Comma and U+FF1F Fullwidth Question Mark.

I fear they may have trouble duplicating this bug, which is essential for any fix.

it’s really hard to imagine the mechanism whereby for only some users those two keys on azerty layouts wind up producing full width Chinese characters instead of the standard narrow asci versions. In my years helping here on keyboards I don’t recall anything quite so strange.

I have this issue in every app on my iPad, doesn't matter if I use English (UK) or Dutch (Belgium), as long as I have an AZERTY layout selected. I also tried with a bilingual keyboard English (UK) and Dutch to no avail. same thing happens when typing a ?(this char is on the same key). I used an external Apple keyboard with AZERTY layout, no problems with , and ?. This comment is typed in Safari, but I see the same problem in Notes or other apps. The language of my iPad is set to English (UK),but with Belgian region settings:

My English UK keyboard as below. Note the problem keys don’t relocate with the 123 toggle. Something is different in your setup. This from UK sourced iPad Pro M4 11” A2837

I think it is relevant to ask exactly which model number iPad you have (Settings>General>About then get the Annnn model number). And where was it purchased or at least the world region where you bought it?

I don't know how to switch between ansi and iso, but if somebody can explain how to do this I will try it.

Try making an English (US) azerty layout and see if the screen keyboard is any different. ansi has no letter key between z and left shift, and the enter key is horizontal instead of vertical.

(I haven't found instructions for choosing ansi vs iso, but there must be a way, as anyone the US or Asia will probably find the European iso layout uncomfortable)

I have tried all the likely combinations I can think of for language and keyboard but still unable to reproduce this problem.

I agree with Tom Gewecke, there only seems to be one comma (non rounded) in the default font set at least for us native English users. We need to find out where the rounded one comes from. Could this be something added by Apple Un-intelligence?

Just an unfortunate byproduct of a blanket policy of the forum moderators to avoid having the place flooded by pointless complaints from beta testers that something doesn't yet work right. There are separate channels for that.

But I think your mission has been accomplished:-)
