Slow performance and lag after iOS 26 update on iPhone

After updating my device to iOS 26, I have been experiencing significant lag across apps and system settings. The performance has dropped noticeably, making the device feel slow and unresponsive. This is affecting the overall user experience, and I would appreciate guidance on whether this is a known issue or if there are recommended steps to resolve it

This is pretty normal after updating to iOS 26, especially in the first couple of days. Your iPhone is doing a lot in the background, like reindexing photos, optimizing apps, and rebuilding system data, which can make everything feel slow and laggy.

If your phone isn’t a newer model, you’ll notice it more since the new system is heavier. Some apps might also not be fully optimized yet...

Give it 1–3 days, keep it plugged in on WiFi overnight, and restart it once. That usually smooths things out.

If it’s still lagging badly after that, then it’s not just the update, and you might need to reset settings or reinstall the system.

I upgraded iPhone 15 pro to iOS 26.1 ten days ago and safari is just DESTROYED. bookmarks and web navigates so slowly, lags exceed 6 to 10 seconds between click and action. I have gigabit fiber and eero 7 500 m WiFi speed so it’s definitely the operating system. Apple please fix ios26.1’s interminable lags.

I also am not happy with this new IOS. Just opening mail or messages causes serious lags in loading content or simply not loading at all and having to close and reopen the app. It also seems and has been in previous IOSs, to be less intuitive requiring more steps to complete the same tasks. Then the layout of controls on safari and other apple apps is difficult to navigate with way too many hidden actions. Finally, the liquid glass should have never made it thru beta testing and obscures the clean look apple products typically have. This is by far my least favorite update. Please fix it.

Yea, they did the same when updating my IPad, we have 4 phones all with great battery health, oodles of space and each one is laggy, unresponsive and and slower than the last update with the oldest one almost unusable. Won’t be updating again. They should issue a slimline upgrade which fixes security issues only with none of the ‘enhancements’ older generation phones struggle with.

iPhone 11 here, new original battery.

After 26.3 update, Apple Maps is lagging with its directions in background, screen off in my pocket.

I am missing turn directions, sometimes by minutes - until the phone wakes up again or something. Definitely an issue that was not there on 18.7.3.

Should I start using Google Maps instead? No i do not want to please…

The rest of functions is good as it was.

I have a new iPhone 13, fresh from the box, updated it to ios 26. Experienced significant lag. I noticed this to be related to the camera. Sometimes, when I open the camera, there's a significant lag and when I type on other apps I notice the keyboard is not responding. This even with just 2 applications open. I followed the recommendation here and observe the phone for a month. It's still the same. ***

You do understand Apple and Apple Support do not participate here, correct? Reporting bugs here in the community (Apple users) serves virtually no purpose. You can report bugs through the Apple Developers portal and Apple Feedback Assistant app (once you register to be a beta tester). You can also report bugs through the feedback link, but don’t expect a response from Apple Support, if using the link.

Exactly, and that is the exact reason why I am refusing to spend another $1,200 to upgrade to the new iPhone 17. Buying a brand-new phone isn't going to resolve anything because this is a deep software optimization problem, not a hardware issue.

Our current phones are more than powerful enough, but the software is completely holding them hostage. Until Apple actually fixes these core system bugs and stops the battery drain, moving to a newer model is just throwing money at a broken system.
