iPhone 17 Pro screen not very responsive to touch

I’ve had the iPhone 17 pro since yesterday, and there have been several times I’ve had to tap buttons in multiple apps and on the Home Screen and keyboard to get the phone to respond. There also seems to be lag when I’m scrolling. Has anyone else had this issue? I have a good quality glass screen protector and this feels like an issue with the software or phone itself.

Hi. You probably have found a fix. I hope. If not, you've got a lot more patience than what I have.

I found that my iPhone 17 pro is having the same lack of touch screen response. I tried restarting the phone to no avail. Removed the screen protector...same lack of screen responsiveness. It was over most of the screen not just along the edges.

I went into Settings, Accessibility, Touch, Touch Accomodations and turned everything off. I even restarted the phone again. And it worked!

The screen is responding and I my thumbs are not getting as big of a workout and my frustration is gone.

So I realize now this isn’t so much just an iPhone 17 pro issue. I believe it’s an iOS 26 problem because I’m noticing the same issues with my series 6 Apple Watch that I’ve had for a few years but that the problem only started after updating to iOS 26. When I searched for that problem—touchscreen bot responding in iOS 26–it seems to be a very widespread issue across Apple devices. I’ve already been resetting both my iPhone and my Apple Watch multiple times in the last few weeks and it’s not solving the problem. It may get me out of a freeze temporarily but it comes right back.

I recently purchased my IPhone 17pro in February of 2026. After a month I noticed screen and side buttons not responding as fast. Then then intermittently the phone screen color change then become unresponsive. I could hear the clicking when I touched the buttons. I first took my phone to the phone carrier who ran updates. At that point the phone died again. They told me I would have to go to the Apple Store for repairs. The Apple Store ran diagnostics and said it was the logic board that needed to be replaced. I just picked up my phone after they completed repairs. After 4 hours my phone died completely. Fully charged, tried everything. Disappointed

I had the same experience on my 17 Pro. I noticed over the course of a day while restoring from backup and signing back into my apps. It wasn't every touch, but it was enough to be noticeable and aggravating. It was almost like the screen was dirty (it wasn't), but many touches weren't recognized. It might get fixed through an update, but I ended up returning it. I noticed an immediate improvement going back to a 16 Pro.

I have the same issue. I got the 17 pro the day it was released and since day 1 it acts about the half the time like I’m not touching the screen when I am trying to do something (usually it’s selecting something like the “submit” button rather than, say, use the keyboard). It seems to happen across all apps. Sometimes if I tap repeatedly it will finally recognize it; other times I have to force quit the app and start over.

I, too, also notice a lag when apps are loading—message or mail for example. For half a second, only the most recent 3 or 4 will show before all load.

My husband and I both got the iPhone 17 last month and not impressed. My texts and WhatsApp take 24 hrs to sync with my iPad and sometimes not at all. My photos don’t always show, can’t get my emails either despite entering passwords etc my husband had maps on and it switched off mid journey. Husband has also complained of screen freezing.

I’m having the same problem. Especially with the phone app. When a call comes in I can touch the small black bar at the top of the screen to bring up the phone controls. Sometimes this works sometimes it doesn’t. Furthermore, if I can get to the phone controls and press the green button to accept the call it frequently does not work. I’m frantically pressing and banging on the green button desperately trying to pick up an important call and can’t do it!!

I have the iphone17 (standard not pro) which I purchased 2 weeks ago and have had multiple software issues, specifically in relation to downloaded apps. The issues came only a day or two after app installations of Instagram and YouTube. This is a brand new iPhone 17 not refurbished or previously owned, I opted for the transfer iCloud data while setting up my phone. While watching YouTube videos in full screen, while swiping from the bottom corner out to exit the YouTube video, on multiple occasions it caused my phone to completely shut off, turn black, and restart on its own. As for Instagram, when viewing reels, multiple reels will appear distorted either by the video being flipped upside down or showing a horizontal split screen mirroring of the video and flashing. I scrolled pas a couple reels to make sure it wasn't an effect. Notably, I know it was not a video affect that the creator themselves implemented because while scrolling to check if other videos were doing it, I reached an ad and the video right after it had the same effect but, I reversed back and scrolled back to the previous ad that was initially displaying normal and now was displaying the mirrored flashing effect. Further for Instagram, opening links from iMessage have been reading incorrectly, the first link I opened from iMessage to Instagram shows me the reel the correct reel i had been sent although, when trying to open a second real link from the same iMessage texts the link in accurately brings me back to the first video instead of the link that I pressed. Lastly, (this happened today) I noticed that in one of my apps that requires a security code it was holding down the number two on its own disabling me to correctly enter my pin. Most of these issues temporarily fix on their own when I close and reopen the application but they do arise again, especially Instagram reels. All of my apps are updated. I have automatic updates on and I did manually go into the App Store and press update on all of my apps. And yes, my iOS is up-to-date (26.3.1). I don’t know if this makes a difference, but I do not have Apple Intelligence turned on.
