Is it possible to switch back to the old keyboard layout on iPhone?

Since iOS 26, the keyboard layout feels not attractive and different compared to earlier versions. Would love to see an option to switch back to the old layout keyboard. I love the old version!

Have you looked at any of the third-party keyboards available in the App Store? Perhaps one of them would suit you better?

As far as I am aware there is no way to change the keyboard back to how it was before iOS 26. It would be nice if it could be made a possibility, because I cannot count how many times I have hit emoji instead of numbers because of the changed layout.

It's likely you'll get used to it. In the meantime, slow down a little to try to avoid making the mistake. Every time you make that mistake, it reinforces your muscle memory.

You might also want to look at third-party keyboards to see if any of them better get your needs.

To revert to an "old" iPhone keyboard layout, go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards, then select the keyboard you're using (like English), and finally choose the preferred layout (e.g., QWERTY) from the options. If you're seeing a different type of change, like a floating or one-handed keyboard, you can usually pinch the keyboard with two fingers to make it normal or find the settings for one-handed keyboards in Settings > General > Keyboard > One-Handed Keyboard

To Change Keyboard Layout:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Scroll down and tap on Keyboard.
  4. Tap on Keyboards.
  5. Select the keyboard you want to change (e.g., English).
  6. Choose the layout you prefer from the list, such as QWERTY.

If Your Keyboard is Floating or One-Handed:

  • Pinch to return to normal:
  • If you see a floating keyboard, try using two fingers to pinch the keyboard together to bring it back to its full-screen, standard position.
  • Turn off one-handed mode:
  • If you see a one-handed keyboard, go to Settings > General > Keyboard > One-Handed Keyboard, and then select Disabled to make the keyboard stretch across the screen again.

The new keyboard layout deeply frustrates me and I can’t stand it, it’s also incredibly laggy and awful so I keep making typos. I can’t delete the update there’s no setting to revert the keyboard. Apple, I hope you give us a setting to change back to the original interface soon because if not I will be looking at switching brands for my next phone because the lack of flexibility in this new update is a serious problem for me.

I hadn't noticed any difference in the Qwerty one.

Honestly, neither have I. Someone in another thread actually took the time to measure both keyboards. The keys are within a hair's breadth of being identical. They did change some of the labels such as removing the word "space" from the space bar. Someone actually suggested that people would no longer know what the key was for without the label.
