Lost videos when transferring from my old iPhone to my new iPhone

Bought a new iPhone (17 pro) and transferred all the photos and videos from my old one (XS). Reset the old one to give to my child. A little later i realized i was missing (drums for effect) 731 - yes that's SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY ONE of my videos - going back to my first iPhone - videos that I would miss, of my kids growing up. The reason i know just how many videos didn't get transferred is because luckily I have them on my MacBook (no thanks to the photo and video sync feature which we lost somewhere along the way, so i need to do everything manually now). Otherwise they would have been lost forever. I guess i can't trust the Apple process anymore like i used to. REALLY disappointed.
