trouble adding air pods pro to the "find my" network

my new air pod pro ear buds are nicely paired with my iphone 16 and ipad.

Ive tried adding them to the find my network. The instructions say to go to settings, blue tooth, select the more info button and then scroll down to make sure the "find my" network is toggled to "on". But I have scrolled that part and there is no toggle appearing in that section.

I also tried to add it through the "find my" app on both the iphone and then also the ipad. It goes through several steps and ultimately I get a notification that says Could Not Add A New Items; Make sure the item is nearby and ready to connect.

Any suggestions?

Seems you only need to ensure Find My is turned on, on your devices with up-to-date OS software, and paired items are added.

Find your AirPods - Apple Support

Eg: says:

You must pair AirPods with iPhone or iPad where you’re signed in to your Apple Account to see your AirPods in

Find My on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch, or on the web at iCloud.com/find.

There's much more info. in the above article.

While wearing your AirPods paired to a device with recent OS:

Try Settings > Tap Name of AirPods (near the top) > Scroll down to Turn on Find My network.
