Location sharing not working after iOS 26 update

After my wife got a new phone, my daughter and I were no longer able to see her location, even though her Find My said she was sharing. Here's what worked for us:

1) In Settings under Location Services, make sure Find My is enabled;

2) Still under Location, drill down to System Services and *again* enable the toggle for Share Location/Find My. (This "aha" find felt like it should have resolved the issue, but didn't.)

3) Finally, send an iMessage to the person(s) who cannot see your location, and use the + feature to add your current location to the message.

That final step did the trick for us, we now see the user's location permanently in the Find My app, not just her momentary location in Messages. I hope this helps some others.

You're not the only one experiencing this after the iOS 26 update. A few things that have helped others are:

• Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and make sure Location Services is turned on.
• Open Settings > [your name] > Find My and verify that Share My Location is enabled.
• Check Settings > Apps > Contacts and make sure Contacts has permission to access your location if prompted.
• Ask your family members to remove your location sharing and then send them a new sharing invitation through Find My.
• Sign out of your Apple Account on Find My (or iCloud if necessary), restart the phone, and sign back in.
• Make sure everyone is running the latest iOS 26 update, as Apple has released bug fixes for some early issues.

If your family members still appear in the Find My app but not in their contact cards, it may be an iOS 26 bug rather than a problem with your settings. Hopefully Apple addresses it in a future update.

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location and Privacy.

Hey, might not work for everyone but try getting the person with the missing location to check their setting and make sure they accepted the new terms and conditions, and try resharing their location. Hope this helps at least some of y’all!

I am running 26.2 My husband is running 26.1 and it will not update his location when he leaves the house or mine when I leave I also have a friend who did not upgrade yet and I get her location accurately so it definitely seems to be linked to the OS 26 Please fix

I spoke to Apple Support today. This problem is known and techs are working on it. Maybe we’ll have a repair by 26.3. Not holding my breath. This is a real hassle. Have to reset the permissions whenever I get in the car.

STILL A BUG-

I'm a techie and this is clearly a bug -

I spent a week on this - went to apple store and had advncd tech Support call

this is a bug - they suggested all kind of toggling on off - etc and didnt fix it

the only answer we suggested to fully factory reset my device - notn feasible as passwords tc would go away.

a bug now for me too. Did the same thing hours in troubleshooting with Apple they said the only thing is to factory reset. I declined and got an entirely brand new phone instead… still an issue. I have 26.4.1… was never an issue until a week or so ago.

Location is never accurate/updated in real time after the new OS install. I have to close location on my contacts and reopen multiple times to get it to reflect an accurate/live location. 16 Pro. So frustrating!

My 2 family members’ location worked until 6.17.2026. I have done all the troubleshooting steps and nothing. Find My App show my family members but not their location. I used to go to Messages and tap on my friend's name (only those sharing my location) two times once to get to their profile then I tap on the name again and it would go to maps and their location would show, now gone. I restarted and nothing. There is something wrong with Apple’s iOS 26.5 update.

Same issue here with me. Been that way since April 2026 for me. Did all the possible troubleshooting… spoke to several Apple reps for hours. Only suggestion they gave me was to get a new Apple ID. I can’t do that. I upgraded from iPhone 16 pro max to 17 pro max hoping that would fix it… and nothing. I have friends with same phone and same

ios update and there’s is fine. Seems to only be affecting specific phones/accounts.

Same issue on 2 iPhones of 4 in a location sharing group. 15 and 17 Pro Max. After upgrading to IOS 26.6, Location Sharing stopped responding for their devices (“No Location Found”.)

Have been through every debugging step listed in this thread, repeatedly, to no avail.

I’m having the same issue. iPhone 13 ProMax. This isn’t the only issue I’m experiencing. Several bugs with contact information and photos changing, linking and unlinking of contacts randomly, Apple ID photo changing, screen freezing, application screen is blank when opening, etc. Please, please, please fix this Apple.

Same thing. Upgraded to iPhone 17 Pro Max on iOS 26.1. Lost my family share. All settings correct. No location sharing for either family member. Spins and spins. Nothing.

What’s fix for this Apple?? I rely on this with my out of state 80 yr old Mom! Not happy to lose this vital service. Please help!!

We just upgraded to 17’s and in the transfer my wife lost all the locations of her friends and family except for me. All the settings are correct. We even had one of the friends reshare location with her and it still cannot find that person. Hopefully there is a fix for this soon
