iPhone 17 Pro Max lags when switching apps and froze completely after a week

Troubleshooting a Lagging iPhone:

Clear Storage Space:

Have you recently checked your iPhone storage? Having low available storage can most certainly cause lagging, as process are likely being swollen up. Caches may have intensely uploaded. So, clear them.

About Troubleshooting iPhone Storage:

"iPhone 17 Pro Max lags when switching apps and froze completely after a week: Hi guys , I’ve had the phone from launch , it has been a great phone . Other than there being very laggy moments . When quickly switching between apps or closing them . Exactly 7 days later , my phone froze when I went front watching a YouTube video , switched to the camera and nothing would work .. it froze. iOS26 was released on the 20th of this month. And there are plenty of bugs reported on these forums; freezing being just one of many.

So, do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of you occurrences, if you don't report it to them.

2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
4. Proceed from there as necessary

What happens when you turn off low power mode?

Same concern here. I noticed a lag between apps or each time when trying to put in my passcode. Now three separate times, my phone has completely frozen for over 20 minutes each time. I was unable to do any rest and just had to wait for it to unfreeze. I was watching a video in a popped out tab (in like discovery + or Netflix) and opened my camera to take a picture when it froze. Each time was the same scenario. I reported it to Apple and contacted tech. This was before the most recent update but it’s still happened after the update. Same here. I love the phone, but this has happened three times, and each time I did the same thing. I switched from an app where I was streaming (either Netflix or YouTube) and went to the camera, and it froze. I had to restart it to fix it. It's annoying, but I understand it's a new phone and OS, so I hope this feedback is helpful.

Same here Deon. I used to have the 15PM and now I miss it as it was eons faster than this 17PM. Typing on the keyboard feels like it’s a an ancient typewriter, and it misses or types the incorrect words knowing that I was typing it correctly. I have to click the send arrow on messages multiple times, or on random websites where I have to click submit, it doesn’t work well. Unlocking the phone takes about 3 times to work. When it opens up, the apps stack up on each other so slowly whereas the 15PM didn’t. I don’t think it’s an iOS issue as the 15PM had the iOS 26 and it worked well. This phone was laggy and slow since the beginning. I thought being new it would take a couple of days to assimilate. The 26.1 didn’t do a difference. Oh, also when I go to messages my contacts show their phone numbers for a few seconds and instead of their names. Safari reloads randomly on certain websites as well while I’m reading that website. Love the concept of the phone and camera, but I’m beginning to think it might be the hardware.

Many are affected by this issue. So, if you haven't do so, already, yourself, report this to Apple.

I agree, my 17 pm freezes while using some apps. I’m hopeful the iOS 26.2 helps fix this bug. My husband has the 13 pm with iOS 26 and his does not freeze or lag

I'm so ready to throw this phone out the window!!!! It lags, it freezes!! Even hitting "send" on a text takes at least 3 attempts and or I have to close and reopen the app! I don't know if it's the phone or the new software but it is driving me nuts!!!!

I got the phone last week, and the lagging when scrolling through the home page is a lot. Even some apps performance is so bad as well, like on instagram the app will not recognise the responses like if i react on something. Also in whatsapp it is lagging. Force restart does help temporarily. And i am on updated software as well. And it is a 1TB device with more than 70% available. And on unlock device page sometime not recognising the face and taking longer to unlock and also slow typing feedback.

Same here. It’s annoying as heck considering that these phones are expensive. It feels like the first Samsung I had back in 2007 where the keyboard’s letters have to be pressed hard for us to feel a haptic. I have a tech support friend who is a developer and says that the 26.2 will be out mid December and will cover these issues, but that’s what they said about 26.1

I thought my phone was defective, my typing keeps freezing up the phone and some apps just straight up freeze and I have to close and open the app. Kind of annoying since we paid for the premium phone and are having slowdowns like a budget android phone

Yeah same here. I noticed that the gestures are terrible as well. I was blaming my screen protector but now that I’m on here I see that it’s not just me. I’m holding on tho! I trust in apple! I just wish they would give more time in-between new phones.

Mine is exactly the same! Apps are slow and freeze as do web pages. Has anyone got any advice? When I am using google image at work the phone buffers. I have to keep using my old 14 pro max!
