Face ID suddenly stopped working on my iPhone

Face ID suddenly stopped working. I’ve installed latest software update. I tried to resolve by setting up alternative Face ID. This seemed to be confirmed but still not working to unlock iPhone or associated apps. I’ve gone back into phone settings but no other option is available. ‘Alternative FaceID’ has disappeared. ‘Reset faceID’ is greyed out even though ‘Stolen Device Protection’ is turned on.

Can anyone assist please?

According to Apple:

Using diagnostics available in iOS 14.6 or later, Apple has detected an issue with your TrueDepth camera that might cause it to not function as expected. The TrueDepth camera contains lasers, which might be disabled for safety reasons if the device malfunctions or is damaged. This won't prevent you from using your iPhone or iPad, but until your iPhone or iPad is updated or serviced, you might not be able to use Face ID, Animoji, Memoji, and some other features that use the front camera.

As a result, I recommend service.

Face ID is hardware; if it no longer works it can’t be fixed with software. Resetting the phone will not fix broken Face ID, but it will allow you disable SDP.

For Face ID failure, here is Apple’s support→If Face ID is disabled on your iPhone or iPad Pro - Apple Support; there is some limited troubleshooting you can do, but it usually requires a hardware repair. There’s a link in the support article for contacting Support.

I’ve read your suggested link. I’m not sure I understand why I would need to remove Stolen Device Protection to resolve my particular issue…… except that the instruction is for complete phone reset which presumably means Face ID can be set up anew.

I’d obviously prefer that I didn’t have to go through a complete reset and was hoping there might be a simpler solution.
