Email not working after macOS Tahoe 26.0.1

Thanks to the community for this discussion. I have been at my wits end for two weeks trying to sort this out. The spell check setting to NEVER sorted it. I will also add that yesterday I finally spoke to an Apple Tech yesterday. She had me remove my OS system and reload - no change. The fact that this bug is out there and that 1) they do not have a formal online statement on how to work around surprises me and 2) the tech had no clue on this bug, she also consulted a supervisor. Apple needs to do better - these are the basics.

Have you tried removing the account(s) and reentering them in Mail?

Delete the account from Mail and put it back in.

Have the same issue and did the "Spell Check" - "Never" work around and it worked. I think Apple better resolve this issue. Just to say the work around hack works.

Sounds like I was having the same problem.

When I would hit send, it would get hung up and not send. After multiple calls to apple support a tech told me to go to settings/composing/check spelling: (I had, 'when I send' selected, but I was instructed to change it to 'never'). So far so good problem solved, but...

I asked how she knew about that fix and she said she recieved a 'work around' notice for this issue.

I'm a big Apple fan and am afraid they are really starting to faulter badly. Don't ge me started on the ****** AI debacle....

I have tried everything to sort this issue - reloading settings a few times too. BUT the only thing that works is turning spell checking to NEVER.

Or, put a deliberate spelling mistake in your email (I add an z to a simple word) and then after you correct it before sending (with spell check on sending ON) it sends!

Apple - please send out an update to sort this!

There is the alternative until a fix is found that you access the accounts via your browser.

I had the same issue and confirm the spell check 'never' workaround seemed to have fixed it. I'm on MacOS 26.1

There was another suggestion on another thread earlier today that if you allowed Mail Full Disk Access it might work.

Have just installed the Apple update (now on Tahoe 26.1) and this issue has no been fixed. You still have to have Mail settings to in spellcheck set to 'Never' for any emails to be sent. If you have it set to spellcheck "when I click send' no emails will work. Painful! Apple, please sort this out.

This is happening to me too since the update of 26.0.1. Mail app is not responding and in spinning ball of death. I have removed all of my email accounts including iCloud. Still not working. This is not like Apple to let a bug go so long without being fixed. I am having flashbacks of using Windows OS.

I've got the same problem. Accounts work fine on iPad and two iPhone. Nothing but frustration and failure and countless hours of deleting, reinstalling, starting in Safe Mode, force quitting and hunting message boards - nothing.

I tried this and no luck. I also tried turning off Siri and Apple Intelligence just in case they were trying to also index emails. No luck still. Mail App is still in “Not Responding” mode = Spinning Ball of Death.
