i have an iphone ES (64gb), but i can’t update it because i ran out of space. when i checked, 30,37gb where used by system data. what can i do? i checked and its most likely bc i haven’t updated it, but i can’t update it because it uses up almost all of the space

Have you tried updating using a computer. It does not have to be a Mac computer. See:
Mac with macOS Catalina or later
or
Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier or a Windows PC
The second artcle does tno mention thet iTunes for Windows is an ex-thing. See:
Install the Apple Devices app on Windows - Apple Support (QA)
That now handles iOS updates using Windows.
