Call drops when answering on Apple Watch Series 11 away from iPhone

I have an Apple watch 11 with a wearable plan from my cell provider, but when I answer the call on my watch and walk away from my iPhone the call starts dropping out.

Do I need the iPhone close to the watch or do I need to answer the call on the iPhone and transfer the call to the watch?

Call recieving issues on watch and phone I recently purchased an 40mm apple watch. Now have it set up with my iphone 12 mini. The issue I have is that the watch receives my calls and not my phone. I would like it so that the watch alerts me to a phone call but not be able to take the call on the watch. I still want to be able to take the call on my phone only. If I disable the watch I will not know if I have missed a call. I am am obviously wearing the watch and my phone would be sitting on my desk not in my pockets.
