How can I change cursor movement on iPad extended screens?

I’ve connected my iPad Air 13 (running iPadOS 26.0.1) to a second (Dell) screen via HDMI and extended the display and it works well.

However, to navigate between screens, I have to move the cursor to the top of the iPad screen where it then jumps into the bottom of the extended screen (and vice versa).

I want to navigate between screens by moving the cursor from left to right (rather than top to bottom). Any tips on how do I do this? Thanks

iPad Air, iPadOS 26

With your iPad connected to the external display, you will have additional settings available with which to control the relative layout of your iPad and monitor:

Settings > Display & Brightness > Arrangement

In this example, you can see that surrounding the central representation of the external monitor you have four rectangles - one being your iPad - showing the four potential arrangements of iPad and monitor. Simply drag the iPad thumbnail to the position relative to your external monitor (shown here, the iPad is positioned to the left of the external screen) and click the Set button to save the configuration.

In the arrangement shown above the cursor will move from the right-hand edge of the iPad onto the left-side of the connected monitor.

Your description suggests that your current arrangement has the iPad thumbnail image positioned below the external monitor.
