iPhone 17 Pro Max detected as iPhone18,2 ?

The model identifier of the iPhone 17 Pro Max is 18,2. They are the same thing. You can see a list of the Model Identifier for most devices here:

Open Settings > General > About > Name - does it say **** Iphone 14? If it does, you didn't change the name of the phone there, when you purchased the 17 Pro Max. Change the name and it will show on your device list as whatever you choose to call it.

That is because that is not the iPhone version number, it has to do with the manufacturing identification number used by Apple. That is the correct number for an iPhone 17, you have nothing to be concerned with.

• So did it previously have that name listed at Settings > General > About > Name?
• When you go back to Settings > General > Amount > Name, does it revert back to the old name?
• Does your other phone show in your device list in the screen shot you posted with the same name?

If the correct name is showing at that location, then Force Restart your phone:

• Press and quickly release Volume Up
• Press and quickly release Volume Down
• Press and HOLD side button until Apple Logo appears. This could take up to 15 seconds while holding the side button and you have to ignore anything else on the screen. If you do not see the Apple logo in that time, then try again as it may take a couple of attempts to get the speed and sequence correct.

When I go to settings, then Apple account, my iPhone is detected as “(name) iPhone 14” but it’s the new iPhone 17 Pro Max…, which it says right below. Here’s an image. This is annoying me, how do I change this? I tried going to general and changing that, but it doesn’t change this!
