Transferring data from broken iPhone SE to iPhone 10S using Apple ID

I am not that knowledgeable in Apple devices so I really need help to understand this process. Recently, my iPhone SE broke and cannot be opened anymore. I know it’s Apple ID password and email (?) I also just got my father’s used iPhone 10S already connected to his Apple ID but he changed it to my previous phone number because he got a new iPhone 17 from which he has all his data from his iPhone 10S transferred. Now, I need help transferring all my data (?) from my old iPhone SE to this iPhone 10S. I want pictures, contacts, etc. back. Is this possible, and how? Was there anything that had to be “backed up” from my iPhone SE? Do I need one of those wires that connect from one phone to computer to other phone for the data? Help!

It's been a while since I needed to set up a new iPhone from an old one but I seem to recall that one needed access on both devices. Transfer data from your previous iOS or iPadOS device to your new iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

You say the phone is broken so I am presuming it is truly broken. In other words, it is not working at all and a cable won't help. In that case you have to hope you were keeping regular backups either to iCloud or to a computer, and you can restore to a newer device using a backup. Even if you were not doing backups, if you were using iCloud to sync things such as photos then setting up iCloud syncing on your new iPhone should result in those items being synced to the new iPhone. Set up iCloud on all your devices - Apple Support

If you were doing neither of those then unless you kept the photos in other places such as sending them by email to somebody, your data are lost.
