Tired of re-entering my password! Is there an alternative to MAIL?

Hello everyone,
Like many of you, I have been having problems with my MAIL account lately. Multiple times per day, and sometimes several times per hour, the little icon starts bouncing in the dock and an annoying little window pops up that tells me that "The POP server ' _____' rejected the password for ___(account)." and it forces me to "Please re-enter your password, or cancel".
Well, I am tired of re-entering my password, and I would like to CANCEL. Does anyone know if there is an alternative to MAIL that would allow me to send and receive e-mails on my iMAC and would also link with iPhoto? I have tried all of the suggestions that I have read about on other threads in this section, but nothing has worked, and I am tired of the problem.
I still love my MAC and my iPhone, but I am tired of the "MAIL" application.

Please help!

Lincoln,

I'm sorry this hasn't worked for you; I felt quite certain it would. It's completely cleared my problem.

One Mac worked, the other didn't, now that both allow Mail access to the password in Keychain Access they both work just fine.

I'm sure you've checked for access in both the smtp (incoming) and pop3 (outgoing) servers for both mail accounts. If you're accessing two mail accounts you'll have four passwords in Keychain.

Are the passwords in Keychain multiple times? I also had this issue. I deleted all, re-entered the passwords in Mail, then confirmed that the passwords allowed Mail access.

You've probably already checked all these items; I'm just trying to think of something else that could possibly be wrong.

Good luck. Wish I was of more help.

Well, now I've done it. I tried to change something, and now my mail doesn't work at all. The outgoing servers say that they are "off-line" and the re-enter your password boxes now come up continuously! I don't know what to do? Is is possible to "reset" the accounts? I don't know what I did to screw things up, but they are really messed up now!

Any help would be appreciated!

Urbansky,

Sorry this hasn't worked for you. I'm thankful that it's entirely eliminated my problem; I wish it would have done the same for you.

I'm still suspicious that the problem may still be in this area. In the *Utilities > Keychain Access > Access Control* window ... you've added Mail as an application ... do you have the _Confirm before allowing access_ button selected? The _Ask for Keychain password_ unchecked? That's the way mine are set and it's been working.

Wish I had more helpful suggestions to offer.

I've been getting the same problem intermittently for a few months, and frequently over the last 48 hours. I emailed my ISP; their answer (once I managed to get some mail in my inbox) was that it was a problem with their server. So with luck my problem should get sorted. But if you're getting problems over a long period presumably the cause is something else; it sounds from the various remedies suggested that there may be several things which can result in this annoyance. Hope you eventually found a solution.
