Location GPS not working during navigation - iPhone 17 Pro

I am experiencing very poor GPS location accuracy when using any and all navigation apps (Apple Maps/Google Maps/Waze). This happens when the app is run natively (not using CarPlay)

Things I have tried:

Reset network settings

Reset location settings

Restored handset and then used a backup of the handset from cloud

Restored handset and wiped phone (no backup used)

**Replaced phone** I thought the handset maybe faulty so replaced it with a new iPhone 17 Pro

To elaborate on the problem - Waze will say it’s trying to connect to GPS and doesn’t

When Apple Maps is running I see GPS symbol (arrow at the top) appear and disappear sporadically

Whichever navigation app you use, you do not get turn by turn navigation and the map updates based on an estimate of where you are - this is slow and sometimes massively inaccurate

I’m flat out of ideas. This is my first iPhone ever (I’ve always had an android in the past) so you might understand why I am disappointed with this.

In store, the customer assistants I asked said this was not a problem they had seen on the 17 pro.

Is anyone else having this problem? Or does anyone have a solution?

I have a new 17pro max 2T with eSim, never dropped the phone, never gone into water either. Having the same problem with weak GPS signal, causing problem with map navigation. I've tried everything I can including updating software, restart, turning on and off airplane mode, location button, precise location button, wifi, reinstall the apps, network reset, reset the phone, removing phone case, installing different sim cards, dial *3001#12345#* to have a complete network signal table, ... nothing worked out. So, at last, I went to Apple genius bar to replace a new PCB Circuitry Board (they refused to replace a new phone), and I went to service provider and replace a physical sim card (though they say it's the same), and now, the phone is working with all maps. Having to pay the money, and still have to go through all these is ridiculous ... !

My fiancé and I upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the iPhone 17 and are facing the same issues. We've had to pull over in very busy Boston traffic to wait for our phones to restart. I've been an iPhone user for decades; he just switched. We're having quite the suboptimal experience and would appreciate Apple Support investigating this, as we both drive for work and it can't be our Fiat 2020 500x's fault...

Are you sure 26.1 resolved the issue? I still feel like it’s not. Have to keep trying longer. I used to have very poor GPS sensitivity, if the phone covers a bit by car dashboard parts protruding above the phone, then you loose GPS connectivity. It’s unlike my previous iPhone 13 Pro which used to be very good with GPS, before I switched to 17 pro recently.

Clear view of the sky and this tinted window thing isn't the issue as navigation has worked flawlessly before with all my devices. It was only recently that this started happening on my 17 Pro, of which I have owned for a month before this issue came up. I am seeing a handful of people talking about the same issue and the only fix is to restart the phones when location is lost. I take the same exact commute every day rain or shine and have never lost GPS signal even for a second until very recently with this phone. Turning off and on Location services does absolutely nothing and WiFi is always on because of carplay. I'm sure its some weird bug with IOS 26 possibly but hard to tell. All I can say is I've never had this issue with any phone until a couple of days ago. Running iphone 17 Pro, IOS 26, no VPN, no apps or case that mess with gps reception or cell reception.

I have been having similar GPS related issues.

Firstly, my location while moving randomly stops or drifts to another road meaning the accuracy dials down to zero at times.

Secondly, even while being still under the sky the location is not accurate and google maps says that the location accuracy is weak because of the weak gps or wifi signals. I have hard reset the phone and meddled with every possible related setting i could find but to no avail. The only thing iam wondering is if this is a hardware or a software issue because the compass app works fine and needs no calibration. If anyone has a fix do let me know. Should i contact apple support?

I am still having issues . I downloaded a gps diagnostic app to view satellite strength while viewing maps on car play and the signal was extremely intermittent. I decided I would get my iPhone 11 (ios26.1)which uses T-mobile and have that google map running alongside my iphone 17 pro (ios26.1) Asa comparison. Both maps worked flawlessly. So thinking the issue is fixed I went back to just the 17 without the iPhone 11 in the car and again Maps under performs. Lags. Signal drop’s etc

Hello. My Apple maps is not working and I really need Apple to fix this. Google Maps doesn't work. Mapquest doesn't work. I have updated everything and I am still having this issue. It is very frustrating, and I need Apple to fix this. Please. I have used Apple products since 2011 and almost never have issues. In recent yrs (past 2 yrs)...issues. First my iMac desktop computer, now navigation on an Iphone that's only a year old. I am tired of this. Please fix this.
