Try charging it properly - ie charge overnight every night to 100% with optimised charging on and no charge limit.

going from half 3 in the afternoon thru to 11am without charging is barmy.

Send it back to who exactly? If the phone was damaged by heat exposure, that would be on you. And if you did send it back to whoever you might send it back to, you'd need to come clean that you may have damaged the phone, don't you think?
