Hulu live crashing to Home Screen

Hulu Live TV keeps crashing to the home screen on all my devices, regardless of the device. My internet connection is fiber at 500 Mbps, and I’ve tried all the basic troubleshooting steps, including updating the app, the Apple TV, deleting the app and reinstalling it, power cycling the Apple TV and modem/router. Unfortunately, none of these solutions have resolved the issue. The duration of the crashes varies randomly, ranging from an hour to 3 hours, and sometimes only lasting 20 minutes. Despite these attempts, the crashes persist. Notably, this issue is specific to Hulu Live Broadcast and doesn’t occur with any other app or even Hulu’s non-live content. The problem has been observed on all three Apple TVs I have. I don’t know why it says tvOS 18, I am on tvOS 26.1 (23J582). The Hulu app version is 9.20.0-released nov 2 2025, and the crashing started a week or so ago. Before that, it only happened a couple of times a week.

I've gotten entirely off of the brand new latest version apple tv4k that i just purchased to try to solve this issue because after apple updated the software a few updates ago, the hulu app when playng/streaming "live tv" crashes out to home screen often, like once every 30-40 min, its absolutely one of the most annoying experiences, listening intently to the news story then BLOOP! HOME SCREEN, sweet....I have a pc that I run the hulu app on all day long streaming the same live news and it never crashes....so apple will you look into what may have caused the apple tv4k to be so incredibly finicky and crashy and buggy ? I firmly believe the quality of apple software has been rapidly going down the tubes as it is a constant source of frustration these days, i'm about to give up entirely on apple, they have unlimited resources yet the products they make do not work correctly.

This is exactly what’a been happening for me as well.

And, for anyone who isn’t aware, yes the app dev is responsible for their own stability on any OS, not the OS.

Even if the root cause is an underlying issue with OS?

The app dev should be handling the crash more gracefully.

In this case?

Hulu is not handling (or defending) their own stability - they are crashing all the way out to the home screen.

This is a standard software defect type, called an “unhandled error”, and Hulu is responsible.

Also? Hulu sucks…so bad. It’s my best, only option for streaming local stations (for nationally broadcast sporting events) and if I did not have the Disney & ESPN bundle, I would never pay for it.

More bugs than a rotted out log.

You have to cancel your account and make them feel it financially. No service provider should be charging customers for a product that doesn't work as expected. This problem has been going on for at least 2 months with no foreseeable resolution. I just canceled my Hulu account for this exact problem. Their escalation support had the nerve to ask my to call back in a couple of days to check on a resolution status. No service provider that you pay money to should put the responsibility on a customer to call back for a solution ... it is their responsibility to contact you. Stop giving these corporations your hard earned money for a garbage product. There are other providers out there to try.

I als have this issue. I contacted Hulu support about it and their response was worthless. After acknowledging a likely problem with Hulu app working with latest TVOS, the suggested I contact Apple support. I said, “so, you’re suggesting that the way to address an interface problem between TVOS and Hulu app is for each individual affected customer to go to Apple support?! Why isn’t the solution for Hulu engineers to contact Apple and solve the problem on behalf of all your customers?” Answer…….crickets. Nothing makes me loathe a company more than when their response to a problem is to tell customers “call the other guy.”

I have been having this issue for at least the last 3 months and it is getting worse. I contacted Hulu yesterday (1/22/26) and they offered zero helpful advice, suggesting that I uninstall and reinstall the app, update the app and iOS, etc., all of which I had already done many times. After telling them that if they could not fix the issue I was going to shop for another streaming provider, they offered to refund a month. Today the problem is worse than it has ever been, with the app crashing at least 3 times in 3 hours.

I will say that for whichever device that is trying to host the hulu app streaming "live tv" its a freakin bumpy ride...not sure if msnow's OTT feed is just super sketchy or if hulu's handling of "live tv" is super sketchy but the digital transitions to and from commercial breaks and show segments i wouldn't wish on any computing device, but my old apple tv before recent updates would run it all day long no issues it was clearly right after an apple update that everything went to _____

Same exact thing has been happening to me, ever since I updated to the new iOS. I have kept Live TV on all day for my dogs (i know, they're spoiled)for years and have never had an issue. I've deleted the hulu app like 3 times, reset my apple tv, changed all my settings to get rid of Sleep/Screensaver etc. It still does it. It's annoying especially when I'm actually watching Live TV and then it just shuts down and goes back to the home screen.
