Arabic Keyboard Options on iPhone

When setting up an iPhone, you’ll notice that there are two different ways to type in Arabic:

  • Arabic Keyboard (Picture Numbers 9 to 12 )
    • This option gives you the standard Arabic layout, meaning you’ll only see Arabic letters and characters.
    • It’s ideal if you’re already comfortable typing directly in Arabic script.
    • Every key corresponds to an Arabic letter, so you’ll be writing in Arabic without any English input.
  • Arabic Transliteration Keyboard (Picture Numbers 3 to 8)
    • This option is designed for users who prefer typing with the English (Latin) alphabet, but want their words to automatically convert into Arabic script.
    • For example, if you type “salam” using English letters, the keyboard will suggest or convert it into the Arabic word “سلام.”
    • It acts as a bridge for those who know how Arabic words sound but aren’t yet fluent in the Arabic keyboard layout.
    • This makes it easier for beginners or bilingual users to communicate in Arabic without switching fully to the Arabic script keyboard.

In short: (Refer Picture Number 1)

  • The Arabic Keyboard = Arabic letters only.
  • The Arabic Transliteration Keyboard = Type in English letters, get Arabic script output.
