Why can’t I add my passport to Digital ID?

Keep trying. I was finally able to get it to verify after waiting a few days.

The whole process goes smoothly, but only at the end, after completing all the steps and waiting, does it say it was unsuccessful and I have to contact Apple service. I've tried this several times and there's no change. Has anyone else encountered this?

I have a newish 2024 US passport, iPhone 15 Pro on 26.1 and can complete the entire process without issues, including scanning the RFID inside the back cover of the passport. I took all the live photos as required and given my passport photo is only about a year old and I look the same, not sure why the process has failed now twice in a row with error “Cannot Add Digital ID. Your Digital ID cannot be added to Wallet at this time. For more information, contact Apple Support.” Of note, I receive the error back in about 1-2 minutes of completing the process.

Is your iOS version on your iPhone 26.1 (not 26.0.1)?

It took me two tries to add my US Passport (new one issued October 2025), I suspect because I had to keep putting on my glasses to read the instructions for Face ID Verification. Digital ID is now in my Wallet.

But it cannot be added to my Apple Watch S8, on latest Watch OS. Keep getting error, “You must be connected to the Internet.” Tried with both home wi-fi and on Verizon 5G.

I have an iPhone 15. Updated current iOS version just now. Authentication is on. Sitting here with a few people with iPhones. None of us have the option for digital ID . DL only. What is going on? Help here,,,

Hello~ Just a quick question for my own curiosity? Did you have a case on your iPhone?

Tried it with and without a case. The one time I got it to work (Saturday) the case was on so I doubt that’s the problem. The first level advisor said to remove it and add it again to get the watch to work. I regret listening to him because I haven’t been about to add it to either now. And I knew that was going to be the case yet proceeded.

I’ve made it through all the steps but I keep getting a message that they can’t verify my ID.

The only thing I can think of is that I’ve lost a lot of weight since my passport photo as well as no longer having a beard so photos don’t match. But I thought facial recognition would cue on other features.

I was able to add my family's passports to digital IDs to their iPhones except I was not able to add digital IDs for my 12 year-old child. I understand there are restrictions to Apple wallet for those under 13 years old but blocking adding a digital ID for a child does not make sense.

An iPhone 11 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 6 or later, with the latest version of iOSor watchOS• .

I've previously replied to that I meet all the criteria you listed.

At the time Katana-San posted that, it doesn't appear that you had given those answers. I suspect that you're being misled by the sort order. The forum doesn't default to chronological order so it can be quite confusing. Go to the top of the page, just under the To-ranking reply. At the left, you'll see "Sort by." Select either "Oldest" or "Newest" from the drop down. That should help make things clearer.
