Share My Location won't turn off

why is “share my location” never turns off even though it’s toggled off. Is this a bug or am i doing something wrong? noticed this when i updated to ios 26.0.1 and i recently just updated to 26.1 to see if it fixes the problem. Can you help me with this one since i don’t really want to turn off my location for find my.

For reference, it’s toggled off both in system services and find my app.

iPhone 13, iOS 26

Why “Share My Location” Doesn’t Turn Off

  1. Find My iPhone / Find My Friends
    1. Even if you toggle off “Share My Location,” the Find My app may still broadcast your location for device recovery or family tracking.
  2. Family Sharing
    1. If you’re part of a Family Sharing group, the organizer can see your location unless you leave the group or disable sharing in Settings → Apple ID → Family Sharing.
  3. iCloud & Apple ID Sync
    1. Location sharing is tied to your Apple ID. If iCloud services are active, toggling off locally may not fully disable it until you adjust settings under Settings → Apple ID → Find My → Share My Location.
  4. Server or Account Errors
    1. Some users report seeing “Share My Location unavailable, unable to connect to server” when trying to disable it. This can make the toggle appear ineffective.
  5. Device Management Profiles
    1. If your iPhone is managed by a company, school, or has a configuration profile installed, location sharing may be enforced and cannot be disabled manually.

Steps to Fix

  1. Check Find My Settings
    1. Go to Settings → Apple ID → Find My → Share My Location.
    2. Toggle off here, not just under Privacy → Location Services.
  2. Review Family Sharing
    1. Settings → Apple ID → Family Sharing.
    2. Remove yourself from location sharing or leave the group.
  3. Sign Out & Back Into iCloud
    1. Sometimes signing out of iCloud and back in resets the toggle.
  4. Check for Profiles
    1. Settings → General → VPN & Device Management.
    2. Remove any profiles enforcing location sharing.
  5. Force Restart or Update iOS
    1. A restart or update often clears server errors.
  6. Last Resort: Factory Reset
    1. If nothing works, back up your data and reset the device. This clears hidden restrictions.

  1. Is this your corporate/organisation/enterprise/School Management iPhone? Then please contact the system administrator of your corporate//organisation/enterprise/School Management
  2. If it is your device, in that case, do you have any profile installed by your corporate/organisation/enterprise/School Management?
    1. Erase the profile added by you If you have installed a profile on your own --> Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple ...
    2. Or please contact the system administrator of the organisation who provided the profile to you

A corporate profile installed on your iPhone could potentially be contributing to the inaccessibility of certain features.

Here's why:

  • Restrictions: Corporate profiles can have restrictions placed on apps and functionalities. These restrictions might be limiting some activity, causing it to be unresponsive or quit.
  • Managed Apps: IT departments might deploy specific navigation apps through the profile, potentially blocking certain functions or features.
  • Security Settings: Corporate profiles often have stricter security settings that could affect app or function behavior. This might be causing unexpected behavior of an App or functions.

Here's what you can do:

  • Check with IT: The best course of action is to contact your IT department. They can explain the restrictions set by the corporate profile and see what is affected. They might be able to adjust settings or suggest alternative apps or features approved for corporate use.
  • Look for App Conflicts: See if your IT department uses a different app through the corporate profile. Conflicting apps might cause crashes.

Additional points to consider:

  • Even if the profile isn't directly affecting the function, it's still a good idea to check with IT. They might be aware of similar issues and have workarounds.
  • While troubleshooting, make sure you prioritize safety. Don't fiddle with your phone.

By working with IT and considering these possibilities, you can hopefully identify if the corporate profile is the culprit and find a solution that allows you to use the iPhone to your liking.

That is not true, I am part of a family sharing group and the organizer can’t see my location because I restricted them from seeing it.

This might be the fix (family sharing or not) check settings → [your name] → Find My.

This a account issue, not a device issue, so you should turn back on that toggle in settings → Privacy & Security → Location Service → System Services. The reason that it is in the account part is because your not just sharing you iPhone location, you are sharing the location of all you apple devices. You just stopped using your iPhone 13 as the master location.
